COOK AND SAVE

The Benefits
By making use of fuel efficient stoves, Ugandan families can experience the following benefits:

- By spending less money on fuel, families will experience an increased income. This might be spent on other necessities such as food, medicine or school fees.
- More efficient fuel consuption will mean families experience better repiratory health. Respiratory health diseases account for thousands of premature deaths in the developing world each year.
- On a larger scale, the stoves will have a beneficial impact upon the environment, releasing less greenhouse gasses and having a positive impact upon the rate of deforrestation.

The Organisation

We are a Community Based Organisation working for the benefit of local people:

- We aim to train and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to manufacture the stoves. This provides invaluable skills as well as a steady income to help provide the young people with a way out of poverty.
- We work with local women to train them in marketing and sales techniques. This provides them with skills and employment and opportunities to have their voices and opinions heard as members of the organisation.
- A percentage of the profit from each stove is donated to projects working with disadvantaged children across Uganda.
The Founder
Our CBO was founded by Osward Kakande - a young entrepeneur from Mubende District, Uganda. Osward is a trained social worker with a passion for working with disadvantaged communities. Having been helped himself as a child he is determined to give something back - and Cook and Save is one way in which he hopes to be able to do that.

ABOUT US
Our Stoves
In excess of 90% of Ugandan households cook using wood or charcoal burning stoves. These stoves consume excessive fuel and emit harmful greenhouse gasses in and around family homes. The over consumption of fuel and the consequent health and financial implications are a burden the majority of Uganda's households can ill-afford to bear.

Our stoves are designed to consume less fuel and conserve more heat. Their clever design means that fuel is burnt more efficiently - costing less and emiting less black soot.
